Gymnastics Zone competes at state meet

For a competitive gymnast, making it to state level competition is somewhat akin to an actor being nominated for an academy award: just making it that far is an honor. The nine members of the Level 4 girls team at The Gymnastics Zone in Napa, mostly younger gymnasts in their very first seasons on the competition floor, not only scored high enough during their regular season to qualify for state competition — every one did it by the time they had completed their second meet of the season.

A field of 339 gymnasts, considered by their season scores to be the best of the best in Northern California, competed in the two-day competition. The girls were divided into age groups in such small ranges that many of them were competing in a field all alone for the very first time in their careers. Nerves were high, but so were their qualifications:
